Sustainability focus sees IPF recognised as a Leader of Agriculture and Environment

MEDIA RELEASE

Incitec Pivot Fertilisers (IPF) has been recognised as a Leader of Agriculture & Environment in The Australian Financial Review's Sustainability Leaders list for 2024, in association with BCG.

Announced this week by the AFR, the award recognises IPF’s commitment to research and development which has resulted in patented fertiliser technology that drives sustainability improvements in Australian agriculture.

IPF’s eNpower® and Green Urea NV® fertiliser range lower greenhouse gas emissions and increase nutrient use efficiency for crops, which in turn improves agriculture productivity.

IPF President Scott Bowman said: “We are delighted to receive this award which recognises the innovative work of our talented research and development team.

“Our team’s focus on improving both sustainability and productivity in agriculture has resulted in the development of eNpower® and Green Urea NV®.  These products reduce greenhouse gas emissions, increase nutrient use efficiency and deliver productivity benefits for growers,” Mr Bowman said.

“As Australia’s largest east coast manufacturer and distributor of fertiliser we are playing our role in improving the sustainability of agriculture and delivering productivity benefits to farmers.”

IPF Vice President Agronomy & Innovation Charlie Walker said: “eNpower® and Green Urea NV® can significantly reduce nitrogen losses to the environment, thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions and increasing nutrient availability to crops.

“These patented technologies are making a substantial impact on reducing agricultural emissions and promoting sustainable farming practices,” Mr Walker said.

Mr Walker said IPF’s Research and Development team was now also working on simplifying ways to measure the greenhouse gas and ammonia emissions from soils fertilised with nitrogen efficient fertilisers, compared to conventional fertilisers.

“This is helping physically demonstrate to farmers and the industry more broadly that our innovations work and are an investment that pays off in the long term,” Mr Walker said.

The AFR’s Sustainability Leaders list celebrates organisations that are investing in sustainable innovations that lead to environmental and societal benefits alongside their business outcomes.
